Let’s meet Waqar, who is working remotely from Pakistan and find out what his career advice is!
WHERE AND WHAT?
I was born in Quetta, Pakistan, but since then Lahore is where I spent most of my time and am currently working for Silexica. I joined Silexica in June 2018 as an independent Consultant Application Engineer. Being a part of the Sales team, my main job is to support Pre- and Post-sales customers. Besides this, I am also managing customer support and Silexica’s licensing and release portal.
BEST THING ABOUT SILEXICA?
Working with customers and enabling sales is always exciting and challenging. I have been doing this for the past 8 years now. Meeting new customers doing different things in different ways offers a lot of learning. This becomes enjoyable when you have a team of highly talented and motivated people around you. I love the energy which everyone has on Silexica’s team.
BEST DEVELOPMENTS SINCE YOU JOINED?
Initially, I was working from home but with more people joining from Lahore, setting up a small co-working space on my first floor was a nice experience. Product-wise, we changed our focus from scheduling and C/C++ to FPGA. It was amazing to see how the management and product teams have executed the plan and how efficiently our development and sales teams have adapted to it.
HOW DO YOU EXPERIENCE OUR VALUES (TEAM, INNOVATION, CUSTOMER ORIENTATION) IN YOUR DAILY WORK LIFE?
The commitment of our executive team and the way they have been guiding us through the changes is great. The culture of trust and mutual respect really motivates you at work.
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU HADN’T BECOME AN APPLICATION ENGINEER?
I am a nature lover, so if I was not an engineer then I probably would be doing something close to nature, ideally a farmer.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
With both kids having passed the 10-year mark, they are the first candidates of my free time. Spending time with them and checking on their studies is what I regularly do during my free time. I am a DIY (Do it yourself) guy, so every other weekend has some project and if not anything then it is my garden and plants.
ADVICE TO FUTURE SILEXICANS?
Never stop learning. Everything is achievable and all it needs is self-belief and a first step. Life is always full of challenges, planning for the future and worst times is a good thing but that should not stop you from cherishing what you have today.
