Let’s meet Nick, our Field Application Engineer in the US and find out what he likes most about his work.
WHERE AND WHAT?
I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, having just recently moved back here after living for a brief time in Boulder, Colorado. As part of the FAE team, I work with potential customers, where my job is twofold. First, I support the customer to ensure they are able to get the maximum value out of SLX FPGA. Second, I work to relay information back to teams about what works well and where pain points are. I am most proud of the relationships we’ve created with several customers and the meaningful engagements that come from that.
BEST THING ABOUT YOUR WORK?
The work is always fresh. At the large corporations where I’ve previously worked, there’s a lot of inertia and just general unwillingness to change. Even if we have an idea that we know is best for the customer and the company, it’s still likely to get shut down by the bureaucracy. At our small startup, it seems we’re always eager to pivot if necessary to do what’s best for the customer and for Silexica.
HOW DO YOU EXPERIENCE OUR VALUES (TEAM, INNOVATION, CUSTOMER ORIENTATION) IN YOUR DAILY WORK LIFE?
I appreciate everyone’s differing opinions. We come from so many different backgrounds that on any particular topic, we all look at the issue in different ways. But we are each able to contribute our own ideas, and then as a team, I feel we do a good job of converging on the best solution.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I like to stay outside. In the summer, this means a lot of time biking along the rivers and hills of Pittsburgh. Now that winter is almost here, that means it’s time to brush the wax off my skis for winter season! I got a lot of time on the slopes. This year I know I’ll get less skiing in because of the difficulty of traveling, but I do have at least one ski trip planned with the family, so I’m excited for that!
ADVICE TO FUTURE SILEXICANS?
Always keep working towards becoming an expert. Find something you find interesting and let that become a passion.
