WHERE AND WHAT?

I was born and raised in this area (around Cologne), so I’m happy to work in our headquarters in Cologne. As Director of Engineering, I support the engineering team in getting well-engineered and well-targeted products built. There’s no typical day as every day is different and brings new challenges.

BEST THING ABOUT SILEXICA?

The company spirit and people here are incredibly nice to work with. I also like the start-up culture and flexibility; the flexibility requires self-organization and that you take over a lot of responsibility right from the start. You can challenge yourself and everything around you to improve everything a bit each day.

BEST DEVELOPMENTS SINCE YOU JOINED?

We successfully launched a new product in January. We are continuously improving both our product features and internal processes to become an even better organization.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

I spend time with my wife and daughter, do things around the house and garden, ride my bike, and occasionally I’m able to slip-in a round or two of League of Legends.

WHAT’S ONE GADGET YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?

Computers in general–since I laid my hands on an Intel 80286 and browsed the file system with “Norton Commander” when I was around eight/nine years old, I have been hooked with the possibilities that these devices give you.

WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU HADN’T BECOME AN ENGINEER?

I would have become a surgeon–for heart or brain probably. I always liked the combination of precision, handicraft, and science involved in that.

ADVICE TO FUTURE SILEXICANS?

Be precise in your studies and learn the basics–they’re invaluable in every job. Be open and keep learning new ways to do things. Most importantly, stay flexible and be prepared to keep changing with what the industry and the market needs.
