Let’s meet Jess, our Head of Corporate Marketing who is a watersports-addict and find out how she experiences the company values in her daily work life.
WHERE AND WHAT?
I was born and raised in the Cologne area. After living in the UK for some years, I came back to my home city where fortunately our headquarters is based. As Head of Corporate Marketing, I’m working on a diverse set of tasks and responsibilities that aim to show the world how amazing Silexica and all Silexicans are! Covering Silexica’s web appearance (website, social media, visibility on search engines) as well as our presentation at events and within the media. Every day brings new challenges and the team always strives to attract more potential customers (Leads) and innovative ways to achieve more visibility and credibility.
BEST THING ABOUT SILEXICA?
The most enjoyable part is the inspirational atmosphere in the office and working with highly motivated people. Sharing new ideas and seeing them followed and implemented is exciting every day.
BEST DEVELOPMENTS SINCE YOU JOINED?
Since I joined Silexica in summer 2017, many changes have taken place and, as it’s the nature of a start-up, more changes will come and will push our maturity. Being involved and driving the establishment of the marketing department at Silexica from the early stage and seeing it grow is what makes me purely happy. Besides the marketing team, the whole team and our global presence has grown over the past years, and it is amazing to see who has joined Silexica and believes in our mission.
HOW DO YOU EXPERIENCE OUR VALUES (TEAM, INNOVATION, CUSTOMER ORIENTATION) IN YOUR DAILY WORK LIFE?
There is no such thing as a stupid question. Everybody at Silexica is supportive and you can feel that we all enjoy working together. We live a constructive way of working with a lot of humour and close collaboration, even across different time zones.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ITEM OR PLACE IN THE OFFICE?
I spend a lot of time with Gian Carlo, our barista espresso machine, and in summer I enjoy the early hours working outside in the backyard (with a good coffee of course).
WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING IF YOU HADN’T BECOME A MARKETING PROFESSIONAL?
While I was studying I gave many tutoring courses to kids from age 7 to 18 to support them to catch up in school or to decide on a university programme. Furthermore, I helped a lot of kids to learn swimming. So it’s easy to see that I always enjoyed teaching and mentoring. I think I would have been a great and influential teacher.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
I’m a watersports-addict and spend as much time as I can on my SUP or wakeboarding at the lakes around Cologne.
I also love to travel to the most untouched places to disconnect from everything I already know and get inspired by new experiences. Especially the wilderness of Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe magically pushed me out of my comfort zone and I still dream about elephants entering my tent at night.
ADVICE TO FUTURE SILEXICANS?
Be flexible in everything you do and keep in mind that change is a friend and needed to grow. The software industry, as well as the start-up environment, are fast-paced surroundings and you will learn and grow with similar speed. Stay curious and enjoy the way.
