Meet our Head of Finance Jari and find out about the wide variety of tasks in his department.
WHERE AND WHAT?
I live in Pulheim and work in our headquarters in Cologne, Germany. I look after the Finance organisation of Silexica. We deal with the day-to-day accounting, cash management, consolidation, financial planning, investor reporting, audit, managing our ERP solution – overall an incredibly broad and exciting role with very few days that are alike.
BEST THING ABOUT SILEXICA?
Coming from a big corporation, it is refreshing to work in an organization that is able to proactively change so quickly. The speed at which the team is able to bring new ideas to life or initiate new ideas out of setbacks is simply amazing. Also being able to work with such a diverse group of cultures and ideas is very enriching and rare to find, especially in a company of our size in Germany.
BEST DEVELOPMENTS SINCE YOU JOINED?
Reflecting on the last year, I think there are few things that have not changed – you can tell that the organization has matured within the last year with a lot more focus on product – market fit whilst luckily still retaining the ability to try new things.
IF YOU HADN’T BECOME HEAD OF FINANCE, WHAT WOULD YOU WORK AS?
Maybe a carpenter, I enjoy building things out of wood – it’s also a nice balance to my current job and enables me to create something unique and tangible. Not sure if I would still have all my fingers though had I gone in that direction.
WHAT’S ONE GADGET YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
My headphones, I usually have a pair lying around everywhere.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING?
Lately, renovating our house has been taking up all of my free time. Luckily that is something I do actually enjoy quite a lot. Other than that I go to a lot of concerts, take pictures, and enjoy a regular gym / sauna session.
ADVICE TO FUTURE SILEXICANS?
It’s simply a great experience that will put you way outside your comfort zone and will enable you to develop more broadly in a very short period of time. You get the chance to simply try things and have a tangible impact on the organization’s direction.
